Sir, – I read with dismay that the Companies Registrations Office will in the future require shareholders, nominees, and/or directors to declare their PPS number when registering a limited company (Business, April 15th). To me this follows a Government decision to obtain this information despite being refused permission in the past regarding the issue of Public Services Cards for use as an identification card.
We are also advised that the information on an application will be vetted by the Department of Social Protection to confirm PPS number, name and address of applicant.
Surely, the Data Protection Commissioner would have an interest in this. – Yours, etc,
