Sir, – In the school fees debate, Dermot O’Rourke makes an interesting comparison between paying for parking an 05 Golf and a new Mercedes, suggesting that it should cost the same, and not be judged on the wealth of their respective owners (Letters, August 23rd).
It’s a pity the Government don’t see it that way. Road tax on the new Mercedes is about €280 per annum, and €740 on the Golf.
Guess who drives which one.
