Sir, – Looking at mature steps being taken by Europe’s largest economy, Germany, towards the legalisation of cannabis for recreational use among adults, the same forward thinking action in this jurisdiction feels a long way off (World, September 16th).
Besides the obvious benefits of safety regulation, other positive outcomes would include an increase in compassion, affection and reduced aggression, which have been indisputable offshoots of its use for decades.
Ireland can only benefit from following Germany’s lead in this space, but the thinking required at legislator level seems quite a distant ambition. – Yours, etc,
