Sir, – The Irish Times has afforded two experts more than 800 words apiece to discuss Article 41, most especially 41.2 and what should replace it (“Head-to-head: Should ‘women in the home’ referendum be delayed? Ivana Bacik and Eilis Barry share their views”, Opinion & Analysis, September 5th). Yet despite one expert’s claim that developing the appropriate wording is not “rocket science”, neither of them, both apparently experts in this area, are able to offer a wording themselves across over 1,600 words of text.
Perhaps, this is because it is not alone a complex matter but one of ever expanding yet irreconcilable desires and aspirations. The challenge is best illustrated in Eilis Barry’s contribution which seeks a wording that will endeavour to tackle all the ills of the world.
The best and simplest option, which wasn’t provided the opportunity for 800 words to make its case, is delete and move on. – Yours, etc,
