However, I was disappointed at his summing up of our sad defeat in Paris (“Why can’t Ireland get past the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals?”, Sport, Analysis, October 17th).

It is ironic indeed that this “boring” team is in the semi-final while we, the number one team in the world, have come back home with nothing except our broken dreams and overinflated expectations of ourselves.
The fizz is certainly gone out of it for us but credit where credit is due to England. A win is a win! And still all to play for and more great rugby to be played. – Yours, etc,
