Sir, – The national broadcaster could recoup some of its huge losses by selling the rights to Netflix and allowing them to make a series about the organisation. It could be called “RTÉ: The Scandal”. This would be a major production, employing lots of actors to play all the various committees, subcommittees, boards, executive boards, etc, not to mention “The Talent”. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I understand that St Benedict can be credited with the aphorism “It is easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission.” Might one suggest that if RTÉ is in need of a new mission statement, it need look no further? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Our politicians are unhappy that some of the key people connected with the ongoing RTÉ controversy are not available. Do they include the politicians who appointed 10 of the 12-member board of RTÉ?
It is also our politicians who set up RTÉ in a way that requires dual funding and at the same time refuse to make a decision on that funding. The last licence fee increase was in 2016 and since then our politicians were unable to make a decision on how to fund RTÉ. Where were our politicians when all this was going on? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – RTÉ loses €2.2 million and TDs are tripping over themselves to question the broadcaster. The cost of the children’s hospital is €2.2 billion and rising and we get . . . silence. Where are the TDs while this is happening? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Having listened in disbelief to the Oireachtas Media Committee coverage during the week, is it not time for Government to make RTÉ a “ward of court”?
It is clearly incapable of looking after its own financial affairs. – Yours, etc,
