Sir, – A letter writer describes MetroLink as a “grand gesture that will not be interoperable with either Luas or Dart” (Letters, May 7th).
The proposed MetroLink route intersects the Dart at Tara station, the Red Line Luas at O’Connell Street Station, the Green Line Luas at both St Stephen’s Green and Charlemont Stations, and mainline rail at Glasnevin station.
It cannot be built soon enough. – Yours, etc,

A chara, – MetroLink’s cost, while certainly high, reflects the fact that the project will require significant tunnelling under the city centre, something which is never cheap even in more workable soil. Regarding concerns as to interoperability with rail services, MetroLink is in fact being designed to interchange with existing rail services. From the Luas Green line at Charlemont to connecting with the Dart at Tara Street. Once the massively important Dart+ project is completed there will be a major new station constructed at Glasnevin to allow connections to westward Dart Services. – Is mise,
