A chara, – I was surprised to see Irish right-wing demonstrators marching shoulder-to-shoulder with their northern loyalist kindred spirits, and the Irish Tricolour and Union flags being carried side by side (News, August 5th). It made me think a united Ireland might be on the table after all, albeit not one in which most of us might like to live. – Is mise,

Sir, – It was intriguing to see Irish Tricolours side by side with Union flags at the anti-immigrant and Islamophobic “protest” at Belfast City Hall at the weekend. It is surmised that the Tricolours had been brought by “patriots” from the Republic. I do hope they left some behind for their fellow protesters, who will be happy to display them on the July 11th bonfires next year. – Yours, etc,
DANNY BOYD,
