Sir, – When will it end or at the very least show signs of abating? I am once again making up the single bed of my childhood room with its blue walls adorned by posters. I feel I’ve failed again at the age of 28 trying to seek and maintain independence and be a “proper” adult.
Despite the push notifications from Daft.ie, the endless emails and viewing of house shares, I’ve had to accept defeat and move back before the current landlord returns.
At one such viewing – where I was one of 20 in a queue – the landlord conducting the viewing remarked that the double bedroom was where he had studied for exams. Further conversation revealed he had purchased the property during the Celtic Tiger era while still a student.
I have significant savings amounting to a potential deposit for a mortgage but as I’m currently on my own and four times my salary doesn’t go near the asking price of the most basic of apartments, I can only hope I find another house share to rent again in the future.
