Sir, – As has happened many times before general elections, Bills are going through the Dáil “at the speed of the Epsom Derby”, as Harry McGee from your paper said on RTÉ Radio yesterday.
But this would not have to happen if there wasn’t so much time wasting in the Dáil. One example, and there are many, is that there are too many debates on votes of confidence or of no confidence. Any of us could write the speeches for these debates and know the result of the votes after the talking.
The TDs resumed work in the Dáil on September 16th and now are taking a Halloween break.
TDs are legislators so please let’s have more legislation debated properly and not hurriedly in the Dáil and less time wasting. – Yours, etc,
