Sir, – David Power may have a point in licensed premises not all displaying the prices of drinks for sale, which they are legally obliged to (Letters, October 29th).
But I have noticed recently an increase in the display of a Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) poster with the headline “No Profit in Pints” and a detailed breakdown of where a customer’s money goes.
With the price of a pint given at €5.77, pub owners say they just make 17 cent for every pint pulled. This is after €1.77 in taxes, €2.06 to the drinks supplier, €1.41 in staff wages and €1.05 in overheads.
