Sir, – As I read about the continuing objections to the Dublin metro project from residents of Dartmouth Square and the OPW, I am sitting on a shiny new metro carriage in Madrid, having travelled here from Seville on a high-speed train that zipped along at 270km/h. As I understand it, Spain is the European leader in bringing such projects in on time and on budget.
I wonder has it occurred to the Department of Transport to take a trip to Madrid to figure out best practice? Or, dare I suggest, hiring a Spanish construction firm for the job? – Yours, etc,
BRIAN KELLY,
Dublin 14.
