Sir, – Economist Richard Tol’s prediction, as he departed his ERSI post, to the effect that Ireland faces another decade of economic austerity might be wholly depressing but it was scarcely a revelation (Business, January 2nd).
It did, however, clarify one nagging question which had been bothering me; for precisely how long might a Government be prepared continue pursuing a course of action without it bearing a single positive result! – Yours, etc,
