Sir, – Frank McNally (An Irishman’s Diary, November 25th) is concerned at the proliferation of academic titles in Irish hospitals following Trinity College’s decision to adopt the US system.
He should be relieved that Trinity followed American not Austrian tradition, or top doctors would be adding “Prim Univ Prof Dr Dr” to their brass plates – and their wives would expect to be known as Frau Prim Univ Prof Dr Dr. – Yours, etc,
