A ray of hope

Madam, – A tale has it that in the Middle Ages a city was put under siege for more than 100 days. With all their food gone, the starving people threw the last loaf of bread over the city walls to the army surrounding the city, and shouted “you can have this, as we have plenty more in here” . This was the pivotal moment which caused the army to abandon the siege and go home.

On Tuesday night Imma opened an exceptional exhibition, called The Moderns, featuring hundreds of works of art from every well- known Irish artist in the 20th-century. It can only be described as stunning. It is Imma's best exhibition by far, and it will no doubt receive international acclaim.

In these days of doom and gloom, with each day bringing new financial burdens, this is a ray of hope for Ireland, a loaf of bread, thrown over the city wall, stating we may have austere years ahead, but Ireland is still alive, we’ve got our arts and culture, and the motivation to get us beyond this difficult time. – Yours, etc,
