Sir, - I feel compelled to take the Jesuits of Milltown and Gardiner Street to task on the abortion issue. They keep banging on about this country being the safest in the world in which to deliver a baby, medically speaking. Most women know that. Delivery is not the issue.Let's start at the beginning. Sex or rape? In the civilised world we choose our sexual partners, whether within marriage, in a stable relationship outside of marriage, or even for a one-night-stand.How can priests of a church that has it as an ideal that children be born inside marriage then swing to the other extreme and say that rape, with a knife to your throat or a broken bottle to your face, is acceptable? They can tolerate pregnancy through rape. I challenge their standards of decency.Might I suggest that their opposite numbers in the Anglican church, who are married with children, would have a more practical outlook in this matter. May I wish you enlightenment for the New Year? - Yours, etc.,Kathryn Mulready,Calderwood Road,Dublin 9.
