A chara, Your report on the new urban renewal scheme which will seek to focus on the socio-economic benefit of such renewal to the relevant locality would seem at first glance to be very good news. Our area of Inchicore/ Kilmainham would be a very good example of an area which has real potential to blossom under the new scheme. Dublin Corporation has already drafted a plan for this part of the outer city. Some months back, it had to be rewritten when the major potential catalyst for regeneration here, namely the LUAS Light Rail System, was rerouted away from the historic villages of Inchicore/Kilmainham.
The decision was reached in an undemocratic way, driven by un-representative, selfish business interests, who do not have the interests of this area at heart. It does not augur well for the success of this new urban renewal scheme when such detrimental decisions can be pushed through without the people most affected the local residents being consulted in a comprehensive and efficient way.
