Madam, - In this week of St Patrick's Day I am greatly encouraged not only by the sunny upturn in the weather but also by the reserved judgment of the president of the High Court, Mr Justice Joseph Finnegan, that makes possible at long last the relocation of the Abbey Theatre to the site of the Carlton cinema.
At this time of political crisis we are in great need of expressions of national identity which we can all applaud. In my view the regeneration of O'Connell Street (with the Abbey at its heart) is one such; a second successive rugby Triple Crown would be another. In the circumstances, an Irish winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup seems inevitable. I look to the Minister for Sports and Arts (a Kerryman) to complete the grand slam on behalf of us all. - Yours, etc.,
GERALD MORGAN, Arts Building, Trinity College, Dublin 2.
