Madam, - I agree wholeheartedly with Patrick Cahill (January 28th) that it is time for the Government to act against the most insidious forms of advertising of alcohol to minors. It can start with closing the ridiculous loophole in our law that allows British football clubs to produce replica strips emblazoned with logos for Carlsberg and Carling sized for five- and six-year olds and sell them legally in this country because the clothing originates outside this jurisdiction.
The hand-wringing by Government departments on this issue must end and the cosy relationship between alcohol and sport in this country must be stopped. - Yours, etc,
