Sir, - I would like to nominate Aer Lingus for the award of Most Cigarette Friendly Airline in Europe. While the vast majority of European airlines have long ceased to carry cigarette ads in their in-flight magazines, Aer Lingus continues to sell prime advertising space for health-warning-free ads which glamorise smoking.
I invite chairman Bernie Cahill to explain to his shareholders, the citizens of Ireland, why his Board shows utter disregard, if not contempt, for State public health policy. Is the maximisation of profits his board's only yardstick? - Yours, etc.,
