A chara, - I spent last week travelling on public transport in England. It was always a relief to alight from a bus or a train and leave the station. The advent of suicide bombers has changed attitudes to travel, possibly forever. Any rucksack, suitcase or fellow passenger could be a bomb. A shoot-to-kill policy as enunciated by the British authorities is understandable. However, as your Editorial of July 25th points out, it is another thing to trust the intelligence services and police to implement such a policy effectively.
The British now realise that they have an enemy within, apparently intent on destroying their "decadent" society. We are part of that same liberal western society. - Yours, etc,
