Aftermath of Taoiseach's interview

Madam, – For once I find myself in complete agreement with An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, when he states that he “is not a Taoiseach on probation”.

Indeed the probationary period is well and truly over! – Yours, etc,

BERNIE WOULFE,

Croagh, Co Limerick.

Madam, – If we are to believe the commentators in The Irish Times, the Galway Fianna Fáil bash must have been incredibly expensive! A rise of even 0.5 per cent as a result of the jitters given by the Taoiseach's after-party interview would result in an extra €5 million in annual interest charges for the next €1 billion borrowings! Is this another "manageable" extra cost? – Yours, etc,

CHRIS WOOD,

Upper Glenageary Road,

Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.

Madam, – In light of recent events in Galway and the so-called fall-out, the phrase “Nero fiddled while Rome burned” comes to mind. May I add an analogy? Cowen sang while Ireland singed. – Yours, etc,

JM DOLAN,

Hollywood Drive,

Goatstown, Dublin 14.
