Sir, - Some of us find the opening sentence of your article (June 23rd) on the Internet wave patronising. So a woman of 78 knows what cyberspace is? She may not use a computer, but I suppose she reads the papers.

Two weeks ago a daughter of mine, while staying with her sister near Florence, wanted to inform her brother in San Francisco that a student niece would arrive on his doorstep two days later. The anxious mother sent me an e-mail asking that I tell the brother, give him the new Italian address, and let the sisters have all the family addresses. It does not seem that either of them said: "Ma will hardly be able for that; she's almost 77."

Also, I am puzzled by the "The info class". "Fewer people are accessing the Internet at home: 50 per cent in 1998, compared to 60 per cent in 1997." Fifty per cent of how many? Sixty per cent of how many?
