Sir, - Recently many letters condemning the US led air attacks on Iraq have appeared in your columns. Most have complained that American foreign policy toward Iraq is nothing more than belligerent bullying. In my opinion, mere complaining accomplishes nothing more than easing one's conscience.
We've heard from the section of our society that seems to think verbal condemnation will suddenly force a change in the attitude of the most powerful country in the world.
Now will someone come forward and offer a truly rational and constructive idea which will compel the American government to alter its policy toward Iraq to one of peaceful negotiation rather than confrontation? Or is this too much to ask in a country which itself needed an outsider to bring peace in our lifetime? - Yours, etc., Edward D. Rafferty,
