A chara, - Why does the GAA continue to offer insult to our national anthem at the great sporting events which it organises? Last Sunday, on our greatest Gaelic sporting occasion - the All-Ireland Hurling Final - the disrespect was possibly at its greatest ever, with supporters of the opposing teams shouting, roaring, honking horns and waving flags, long before the playing of our national anthem was complete. I felt anger and annoyance, and some embarrassment too, at the behaviour of these people. The GAA must take responsibility for this loutish behaviour and take steps to end it. Since it obviously can't teach its supporters to respect the anthem, it should at least move the playing of the anthem to an earlier stage of the proceedings - if necessary, having it played before these socalled Gaelic "supporters" enter the stadium. - Is mise.,Liam O Geibheannaigh,Ath an GhainimhCo Atha Cliath
