Madam, – You were good enough to publish a letter of mine in September 2005 under the heading “Pensions Crisis”, suggesting that it might be a responsible idea for the Government to permit additional voluntary contributions to the social welfare fund rather than steering worried people towards commercial pension providers with, at best, a patchy record.
Indeed in March 2007 you published a letter from Pádraig Yeates along the same lines but with a more detailed proposal.
Given all that has happened since and the burgeoning foreign borrowing requirement of the State, is this not an idea whose time has come? – Yours, etc,
