Sir, - Mr Edward Leane's letter (July 1st), which strongly suggests America's foreign policy is a thinly disguised, venomous plot to subvert the independence of a number of the world's countries, reeks of paranoia.

Mr Leane's apocalyptic visions would have us believe a Third World War is imminent as the most powerful nations, led by the most heinous of the Western evil empires, conspire to wrench the remaining natural resources from the very hearts of poorest of the world's nations with cataclysmic results.

According to Mr Leane's treatise, the indigenous North American peoples along with natives of the British Colonial Empire were the first victims of this malefic drama which has transcended several centuries and now not only threatens the minor players such as Libya, Iraq and Serbia, but the Russian bear as well.

America, abetted by its Anglo ally, is prepared to use both physical and psychological weapons to subjugate entire populations in the quest of world oil domination. American-supported, multinational industries use this psychological weapon to: "take control of people's lives in regard to work, living conditions and even religion. It is all cleverly done."

If Mr Leane's purpose in writing this letter is to alert the readership to an imminent peril he may well have succeeded. Unfortunately, he offers not one soupcon of a solution to the complex conundrum he has so eloquently illustrated. Therefore, coining an American expression: If he ain't part of the solution, he's part of the problem. - Yours, etc.,
