Sir, - Is the Amsterdam treaty going to be slipped under the constitutional carpet like the Maastrict Treaty? Or will we all have to hope there is another Raymond Crotty (RIP) with the time and money to defend our right to know what we are voting for. I think is abusing the use of referendums. I cannot believe the lack of coverage with only three weeks to go to polling day. If it were a general elections and our TDs' jobs were on the line it would be a more "in your face" campaign. But it's not, it is only our jobs that are being affected by EU integration, so we don't count.
Referendums are now being used to get the public to make blind choices about their future. If it all goes wrong, the excuse will be: "Well, the public put it in; there was nothing we could do about it." Please will somebody tell us honestly what this Amsterdam treaty is about. - Yours, etc.,
