An ecumenical matter

Sir, – As a member of the Chapter of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, having been elected through Synod, I have found the place, that national space, warm and welcoming. The dean has been hospitable to me and has entertained me in his deanery and I have met many of his personal friends there.

As Dean of Cashel Cathedral, I, in my task have personal vision for the place where I am and alongside the Chapter a corporate sense of duty. Our dean is often called upon throughout the nation and further afield to speak in his capacity as Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral. I really feel his open welcome to all Irish Christians is but a vision which could be discussed within Chapter and have his individuality respected. – Yours, etc,

PHILIP KNOWLES (The Very

Rev),

The Deanery,

Cashel, Co Tipperary.

Sir, – I wish to state that I totally disagree with the contents of the letter from Alan G Graham (October 28th). Furthermore, I consider Dean Robert McCarthy’s instigation of the matter is progressive and worthy of support. – Yours, etc,

NORMAN M SUDBURY,

Board Member,

St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin 8.
