Madam, - I found Brian Arthur's photograph of Sister Una Marren taking final vows as a Salesian sister inspiring (The Irish Times, August 16).
In an age when few people enter religious life (at least in this part of the world), women and men who freely and generously make this commitment require faith and courage. I believe they form a link to the future and a renewed form of religious life.
Una Marren's commitment is a reminder to us of the need to support and encourage all forms of generous commitment and idealism in our society.
People of all faiths and none who commit themselves to the ideals of community and service are found in so many areas of Irish life. Their contribution is vital to our future.
Best wishes to Una in following her dream. - Yours, etc.,
MARTIN KENNEALLY, Presentation Brothers, Glasthule, Co Dublin.
