Madam, - Your readers will note that the debate on the whys and wherefores of the atomic bombing of Japan and the bombing of certain German cities in the second World War is not joined by those of us, civilians and military, who were actually damaged by the war.
We carried out our duties and took the consequences, and those of us who had lost family in the war but survived came home and settled into the democratic system that we had fought to preserve.
One of the things that we preserved was the right of citizens who know nothing of our experiences to fill the papers with their views on how the war should have been fought. It makes interesting reading, I must say that. - Yours, etc,
SAM McAUGHTRY, Comber, Co Down.
