Sir, - There's little doubt that Mary Robinson's presidency is a hard act to follow. However, that shouldn't mean that we lower our standards or suspend our disbelief in the search for a successor. Various candidates are paraded before our wondering eyes, each with his or her acolytes demanding our unquestioning adulation. So it's just as well that we have Fintan O'Toole to expose the flaws and the follies of those that would assume the highest office in the land. And it's no harm that he does so in an entertaining fashion, despite the whinges of some humourless correspondents. - Yours, etc.,
Mike Norris,
Cabinteely Green, Dublin 18.
