Madam, – Given that 92 per cent of the electorate do not support the present Government (Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll, Home News, December 16th), one can only hope that 92 per cent of those offered “last gasp” appointments to State boards will reflect those poll findings and refuse to serve.
Further, let’s hope that, as an earnest of intent that things will be different in the future, the leaders of the two main opposition parties will make it clear that they do not feel bound by such appointments and that State boards will be reconstituted after the election in a more open and merit-based manner. – Yours, etc,
