Madam, – Joaquín Almunia, who as European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs was instrumental in the formulation and speedy development of the Nama model, went so far as to outline his hopes that Nama would be adopted by the Oireachtas “as soon as possible” during his visit to Dublin last October.
Now Mr Almunia in his new role as competition commissioner will be responsible for the final approval of Nama.
Surely Mr Almunia’s previous involvement in the project amounts to a reasonable apprehension of bias, thus disqualifying him from making the final decision in this case? – Yours, etc,
