Sir, - The illegal demolition of a List 1 Dublin building over a bank holiday weekend went unchallenged by the Corporation and the Garda, despite an adjacent road being closed without a permit and appeals from the chairman of the City Council's planning committee (Mr Cuffe) to those razing the building to cease and desist.
This incident raises the question: if the authorities cannot detect and prevent an overt crime of that magnitude and time frame, how are they coping with illegal activities such as murder or robbery where generally the largest piece of evidence is a human body and the culprit vacates the scene in minutes?
