Sir, - I attended a concert recently in the Olympia Theatre and bought a pint of Heineken at £2.70. Sitting in the bar before the performance, I noticed cigarette ashes floating in my pint. As both my partner and I are non-smokers, I went to the bar expecting to get a replacement pint.
The bar staff informed me that management policy was not to replace drinks spoiled in this way, unless the ashes were a result of bar staff negligence. This policy was confirmed to me by a manager after the concert.
As a regular attender at this venue I must say that this particular evening was ruined for me. I thought this type of contempt for the customer had all but disappeared from the licensed trade and was surprised and not a little saddened to rediscover it in the Olympia theatre.-Yours, etc.,
Kimmage, Dublin 12.
