Attitudes to Mahon tribunal

Madam, - Evidence to the Mahon tribunal does little more than reinforce our prejudices

Madam, - Evidence to the Mahon tribunal does little more than reinforce our prejudices. On the one side are those who see a clear link between the lobbyists, the money transactions and a dark culture of political favouritism, and on the other are those who either believe the evidence proffered to refute any such link or simply don't care.

It seems that, in the main, the camp we find ourselves in is determined by our acquired or inherited political allegiances. And if anything, this holds true particularly for the "don't care" camp. What's more, it is probable that Mr Justice Mahon's findings will produce little shift in these positions - which, paradoxically perhaps, is not to say the tribunal will have been a futile exercise. - Yours, etc,

OWEN MORTON, Station Road, Sutton, Dublin 13.
