Sir, – Sixy-one weeks of protest in Ballyhea/Charleville, and the protest as strong as ever. Why? €2.5 billion AIB bond coming up in May, that’s just one reason, but there are more – €62.6 billion reasons. €62.6 billion is the amount we’ve so far ploughed in to recapitalise our banks; that’s €15,000 for every man, woman and child in the country.
What kind of regime imposes that level of debt on its own citizenry, for any reason? What kind of regime imposes that level of debt on its own citizenry to bail out foreign banks, then tries to justify it? This week we took a decision; we will appeal no more to our own Government, we will listen no more to our own Government, because they don’t listen to us. Instead, and some time in the next couple of months, we will go straight to Europe. Our Government won’t represent us, we’ll have to represent ourselves. – Yours, etc,
