Banking on the sun's longevity

Madam, - Is there no end to the doom? As if things weren't bad enough, now William Reville informs us that "in one billion years the sun's heat will vapourise all liquid water and life on land will die" (October 16th).

I just hope that the banks will have got their act together by then, because I would hate to see them having the last laugh before we are all vapourised. - Yours, etc,
