Madam, - Mr David Jones, spokesman for the Portadown District Orange Order, commenting on the banning of the Orange Order march down Garvaghy Road by the Parades Commission (The Irish Times, June 30th), says: "The only thing the Garvaghy Road group can hang their hat on is that we won't meet them face to face. But that was never a requirement of the commission."
Perhaps not, but surely it is a requirement of both civil and Christian society to engage in dialogue with our neighbours in attempting to build bridges between our communities. The Orange Order is certainly rich in religious content, but low in Christianity. Shame on it. - Yours, etc.,
