Sir, - The Government's proposal to ban opinion polls in the last week of election campaigns smacks of opportunism. It looks as if Fianna Fβil is doing this because of the unfavourable Tipperary by-election result and the fact that Fine Gael can't oppose the measure because they proposed it in the first instance.
Political censorship is a tool best left to the worst extremists of the last century, and if the Government persists with the plan, its constitutionality should be challenged at the earliest opportunity. - Yours etc.,
Peter Murphy, Mount Prospect Park, Clontarf, Dublin 3.
