Sir, – I can't be the only reader struck dumb with amazement at the article "Holidays on a luxury barge? In Leitrim? Whatever floats your boatel!", April 30th).
How on earth can Leitrim Development Co justify giving a 37 per cent grant (€110,000 approx) to a tourist project that caters for only four tourists per week! Even if their season lasts four months, that's 16 weeks, or 64 guests per year. Are the boat-owners the only ones to benefit? After all, their guests need not step ashore from one end of the trip to the other.
Maybe I’m a begrudger, but it all sounds a bit selective to me. – Yours, etc,
