Sir, - The reported comments of the Dublin City Manager, John FitzGerald, at the recent conference on urban planning are a cause of real concern (The Irish Times, October 20th).
Mr FitzGerald is under the illusion that the debate surrounding "bin charges" is about "votes".
As someone who supports the introduction of local taxation measures, I reject that charge. I also regret the fact that the City Manager has failed to grasp the reality that the debate is about the inadequate funding of local government in Dublin and the failure by successive governments to honour their commitments to local government throughout the State. - Yours, etc.,
