Sir, - Are your readers really interested in the ongoing saga of Bob Quinn's relationship with the RTE Authority (November 18th) on which he was asked to serve? Bob Quinn, as he likes to tell us, has publicly dissented from authority policy on a number of occasions in the past. On some issues, such as that concerning a surfeit of TV advertising aimed at children, I would agree with him and would defend his right to express those views; but then, I am a private citizen. He, as an RTE Authority member, is rather more than that.
Perhaps, instead of publicly questioning the usefulness of his role on the authority, he should quickly take the course at which he has been hinting? He would then be in a position to write to The Irish Times criticising RTE policy on a regular basis. He might even feel like doling out the occasional crumb of praise. - Yours, etc., Louis Hogan,
Corbawn Grove,
Shankill,
Dublin 18.
