Sir, - Two young American people, a boy and a girl, appeared on the "Late Late Show" last week. In a very few words and in a very short time, they expressed their views on how young people, going out together before marriage, should behave towards each other.
To that young couple, I say: "Bravo! You were wonderful and a great credit to your homes and country. As a senior citizen, you raised my hopes and expectations of the younger generations. Continue your good work and let nothing or nobody impede you."
The live audience at the show that night gave little or no support to this brave and delightful young couple. In fact, some of the audience dismissed them with a sneer or a smart remark. I hope that future Irish audiences, before whom this young couple appear, will appreciate the valuable work they are doing and will welcome them with the enthusiasm they deserve. Yours, etc.,
