Sir, - Thomas Kilroy's article (The Irish Times, February 17th) gave an excellent account of the life of Brendan Bracken.
However the headline was inaccurate when it referred to the fact that Bracken came from a broken home in Co Limerick. He was born in Templemore and shortly afterwards moved to Kilmallock where he lived for three years until his father died in 1904. After a short stay in Tipperary town, his widow moved the family to Dublin.
The photograph with Churchill accompanying the article was taken outside Bracken's house in Lord North St, not 10 Downing St.
The footnotes refer to the fact that the biography by Charles Lysaght is out of print. However, copies are available from Waterstones, Dawson St, Dublin. The second footnote refers to Thomas Kilroy's play Double Cross which opened in the Friar's Gate Theatre, Kilmallock last Thursday and is subsequently touring to a number of venues throughout the country. I attended the opening night of what proved to be an excellent production, which I would strongly recommend to your readers. - Yours, etc.,
Brendan Bracken, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
