Sir, Congratulations to Frank McDonald for his report on the "desecration" of Achill and other scenic spots in the west.
I suppose we would like to regard ourselves as an enlightened, concerned, forward-looking people. Regrettably, our apathy and indifference to the violation of the environment hardly suggests an abundance of these qualities.
Achill and similar places in parts of the south and west are oases of peace and silence in a world of noise and frenetic activity. They are among our most precious natural assets and everything possible should be done to protect them.
