Sir, - On behalf of the many people in Ireland and throughout the world who wish to see the Burren National Park remain the natural amenity it is, may I congratulate Clare County Council on its recent vote against further development at Mullaghmore.

It has been a long, hard-fought battle to avoid the Government's planned desecration of the park to install commercial visitor facilities, and the county manager, Willie Moloney, is to be thanked for finally making the official order formally refusing permission for the plans submitted in October 1976 by then Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Michael D. Higgins.

In the eight years the Government has been attempting to force this plan through, funds have been wasted that by now could have paid for newly-completed centres in several locations as recommended by the Burren Action Group.

Ms de Valera's spokesperson is quoted in your paper (September 15th) as saying: "The Minister will consider all options open to her following today's vote."

Let's hope Ms de Valera chooses the option of burying this dead project that has already cost too much and saves taxpayers' money by getting on with implementing the valid suggestions of the BAG to provide necessary visitor facilities in towns surrounding the Burren. - Yours, etc.,
