Sir, - In your letters page of May 8th a ten-year-old schoolgirl has put to shame all of us who have not spoken out for the Burundian family whose imminent deportation from Ireland puts their survival into question.
I for one have no excuse for my complacency. My own family sought asylum in Britain in 1936, and if we had been deported back to Hitler's Germany I would not be alive to write to you today.
I appeal to your readers to join me in taking up the pen and urging the Minister for Justice to reconsider this callous decision. If we can afford an underground LUAS we can afford the Burundian family, who are prepared and qualified to work for their living. - Yours, etc., Agnes Bernelle,
Sandymount, Dublin 4.
