Madam, - While visiting Ireland last week, I had occasion to take a bus from Busaras to the midlands. Several times during that journey the driver's mobile telephone rang, and was answered.
On my return journey a few days later, I flagged another bus at a stop by the roadside. as the driver pulled in, I could see that he was speaking on his mobile telephone, and he checked my ticket while thus engaged.
Shouldn't the safety of passengers be of prime concern with regard to this dangerous practice? Why aren't mobile telephones banned from the driver's compartment? If they are not, it will only be a matter of time before the inevitable happens, and I leave the carnage that will result to your imaginations. - Yours, etc.,
TONY McLELLAN, Toothill, Swindon, England.
